The Paradise Nines IPA Project The Catcher Ameri-Belgo Style Rye IPA from Paradox Beer Company in Woodland Park, Colorado pours out a deep orange in color with some cloud and is topped with a large, off-white head that slowly reduces down to a thin film with a quarter inch collar. Very Belgian on the nose with aromas of yeast, barnyard funk, peppery spice and a little tropical sweetness. The Belgian aspect is predominant in the mouth along with a nice dose of bitterness. Flavors of yeast, funk, spice, pine, fruity esters, just a touch of sweetness and some hints of white wine. Medium bodied. Well carbonated. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Champagne like mouthfeel. The finish is dry and long with the vinous qualities showing the most here although they are outlasted by the piney hoppiness and peppery, rye-like spice.
A very Belgian IPA with a good dose of spice and a hint of wine. The Belgian aspect is amped up and is the most prominent, in my opinion. A quality craft beer meant to be sipped through. Recommended.
