The Lugene Milk Chocolate Stout from Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins, Colorado pours out pitch black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a one finger, mocha colored, dense head that slowly reduces all the way down leaving just a thin collar. Rich, sweet and roasty on the nose. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, roast grain, molasses and a little dark fruit. In the mouth, very rich with decent weight. Flavors of creamy chocolate, molasses, some dark fruit, a little alcohol and a mild, but persistent, hop bite. Medium to full bodied. Good weight in a creamy mouthfeel that coats. Mild carbonation. Some lacing on the glass. The finish is long with the creaminess and chocolate riding along right to the end.
A big, fairly sweet milk stout with a ton of flavor and layers of richness. Meant to be sipped and enjoyed on a chilly afternoon or evening. The booze is noticeable but mellow and smooth with a nice warmth to it. Perfect winter brew. Grab three friends, a four-pack and sit outside on a cold night in front of an outdoor fireplace enjoying a bottle Lugene Milk Chocolate Stout. Recommended.
