The Face Down Brown Ale from Telluride Brewing Company in Telluride, Colorado pours out reddish, dark brown in color with good clarity and is topped with a two plus finger, cream colored, dense head that recedes to a thin film with a large collar. Nutty and malty on the nose. Aromas of toasted nuts, brown sugar, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. In the mouth, quite complex as different layers of flavor appear on the palate. Flavors of nut, dark malt, toffee, a little pine, some earth and chocolate. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Thick, sticky sheets of lacing on the glass. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. The finish is long an dominated by the dark malts almost right to the end where the dose of hops add a kick of bitter to finish off.
A very tasty, sessionable brown ale. I can see why it won Gold Medals at both the World Beer Cup and GABF in 2012. If you're a brown ale fan this is a must craft brew to add to your to drink list. Highly recommended.
