The Master Thief German Style Porter from Grimm Brothers Brewhouse in Loveland, Colorado pours out pitch black in color with no light getting through and is topped with a two plus finger, dark tan, foamy head that slowly reduces to a fairly thick film with a much lager collar. On the nose, deep roast grain aromas, some charcoal, coffee and chocolate. In the mouth, lovely robust flavors. Charred grain, bitter chocolate, hints of molasses, light smoke and a touch of coffee. Fuller side of medium boied. Good carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing that are almost solid on the glass. Dry mouthfeel. The roast gains last the longest on a quite dry, long finish.
Packed with flavor. The dryness might throw a few people that are not thinking a porter should be as dry as this one is but it does work. I'd surely buy this again and again and I am looking forward to trying more craft brews from Grimm Brothers Brewhouse. Recommended.
