The Pappy Legba Imperial Saison from Trinity Brewing Company in Colorado Springs, Colorado pours out a crimson in color with just a little haze and is topped with a one finger, off-white head that reduces down to a thin film with a quarter inch collar. On the nose, a good dose of spice and funk with a hint of cherry, pear and earth. In the mouth, the fruit really shines with a hint of sweetness layered with spice, earth and a dose of funk. Light side of medium bodied. Fine carbonation. Thin sheets of lacing on the glass. Very slight creaminess to the somewhat dry mouthfeel. The finish is quite long with the Belgian like spices lasting all the way to the end.
A very easy drinking Imperial Saison with good fruit flavors and a dose of funk and spice. Sweet and tart and slightly drying. For such a big beer, 13.0% ABV, there is not a hint of alcohol warmth. A fruit laced saison that packs a hidden alcohol wallop. Highly recommended.
