Brash Beer Item 9 Ale

  • The Item 9 Ale from Brash Beer (brewed by Mercury Brewing Co.) in Ipswich, Massachusetts pours out brass in color with good clarity and is topped with a large, white head that slowly reduces to a thick film with a larger collar. A citrus hoppy nose with aromas of mandarin orange, orange peel, pine, resin, grain and some peppery spice. In the mouth, quite mellow at first but then the citrus rind and pine hop bitterness kick in. Flavors of orange rind, orange, lemon, spice, a little mildly sweet marmalade, some graininess and earth. Medium bodied. Effervescent carbonation. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Pretty clean mouthfeel. The finish is long and slightly dry with the bitter hop flavors dominating right to the end.

An American Hefe/IPA hybid brew that is heavy on the IPA with wonderful bitterness layered in with what you'd expect in a hefe. Slightly dry with good crispness and very refreshing. A solid warm day craft brew to be thoroughly enjoyed. Recommended.
