The 19th Anniversary Ale from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out a golden-amber in color, almost like a liquid brass, with good clarity and is topped with a two finger, finely bubbled, white head that slowly reduces to a thin film with a large collar. On the nose, woody, earthy and syrupy. Aromas of vanilla, candy, earth, pepper, wood and a green, grassy, torn leaf-like aroma. In the mouth, the wood flavor is prominent but not overbearing. Flavors of treacle, birch, vanilla, toast, light biscuit, spice and a little grassy-pine bitterness. Medium bodied. Well carbonated. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Slight syrup to the mouthfeel showing off some weight and a slight chewiness. The finish is long and, while somewhat sweet, ends up woody and dry.
A really good craft brew with wonderful flavor. Enough sweetness to please a malt head and enough hop to intrigue a hop head. An Anniversary Ale that is a present for all of us and not just one end of the spectrum. Congratulations on 19 years, Great Divide Brewing Co. Highly recommended.
