Avery Brewing Anniversary Edition 2013 Twenty XX IPA

  • The Anniversary Edition 2013 Twenty XX IPA from Avery Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado pours out a clear, brassy hued orange in color and is topped with a two finger, dense, white head that slowly reduces to a thin film with a slightly larger collar. Big hops on the nose. Aromas of resin, pine needles, citrus rind and honeydew melon with just a hint of caramel. Malty and resiny in the mouth. Flavors of pine, toffee, citrus rind, tropical fruit and a little tangerine. Medium bodied. Prickly carbonation. Thick sheets of lacing on the glass. Good oil in the mouthfeel. The finish is long and dry with the hops dominating with persistent bitterness.

A twentieth anniversary brew is a big deal. Quite a milestone. Making that 20th Anniversary brew an Imperial IPA with all the hop heads out there salivating could be a little unnerving. Not for Avery. This is, without a doubt, one of the most flavorful imperial IPAs available. Avery was not shy with adding more than a few extra handfuls of hops to give this craft brew a potent bitterness. Mission accomplished Avery, and congrats on 20 years! Highly recommended.
