The Even Smaller Batch Series Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout from Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado pours out pitch black with no light getting through and is topped with a dense, mocha colored head that slowly reduces all the way down leaving just a collar of foam. On the nose, deep roast aromas with coffee, cocoa and chocolate milk. In the mouth, flavors of charred grain that are deeply roasted with coffee, a hint of chocolate, molasses and brine (the brewery added sea salt to the beer) comes in towards the end along with a slight mushroom like flavor. Full bodied. Mild carbonation. Little lacing on the glass. Slight creaminess to the mouthfeel. The finish is quite long and somewhat dry with the roast grain flavors riding right to the end where the saltiness appears.
A solid, well crafted stout that started out as an April Fool's joke and became reality. If you see this craft brew on the shelves, buy it. I think you'll like it a lot. Recommended.
