The 2008 Eclipse Imperial Stout (original bottling, Pappy Van Winkle, no wax, bottle #433) from FiftyFifty Brewing Company in Truckee, California pours out jet black and opaque with a thin, dark tan head. Big aromas of coffee, bourbon, oak, molasses and vanilla on the nose. In the mouth flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon and faint tobacco coat the mouth in a creamy consistency. Full bodied. Low carbonation. Decent lacing. Creamy, full mouthfeel. All the flavors linger on an incredible finish with sweet, vanilla bourbon most prominent. An exceptional Oak Aged Imperial Stout that is one of the best I have had. I'd recommend this to all the stout drinkers out there but it is not cheap at $16.99/22 ounce bottle.
22 ounce bomber, 9.50% ABV
