The Blind Tiger Ale House gets beer pairings right. Sometimes spectacularly so. A varied selection of great beer, paired with thoughtfully crafted food. Each would be excellent on its own. Together? It's beer pairing heaven, right in the West Village.
The busy kitchen has sandwiches, soups and small plates that pair terrifically with beer. Their lamb sausage pita, two beautifully seasoned sausages slathered with yogurt sauce and tomatoes, pairs perfectly with just about any beer. Lighter fare, like deviled eggs, or a cheese plate, elevates bar snacking to a new excellence.
Wednesdays are often specialty nights at the Blind Tiger, focusing on one brewery's offerings, including hard-to-find delights.
On Wednesday, August 5th, the Blind Tiger hosted local brewery Six Point Craft Ales, which is based in Red Hook. Six Point brews one of my all-time favorite summer beers: the deliciously tangy Sweet Action. (There's the added bonus of a giggle at the name, I admit.) Sweet Action would be a fantastic pairing with fish tacos, or any mild-flavored grilled meat and fruit salsa combination. Terrific backyard grilling beer, or casual summer day beer. Citrusy grapefruit notes throughout, a touch of Belgian yeastiness here and there, orangey fruits like citrus, dried apricots, and a perfect balance of malts and hops. Something Thai or Japanese with plenty of ginger would also be delicious with Sweet Action alongside.
