Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic
Stone Brewing Co – Escondido, CA
Stone lists this beer as ageable til 12.12.12 – well guess what? It lasted about three weeks in the refrigerator.
This beer seems to be a cross between a Belgian dubbel & and IPA. They mention getting inspiration from Belgium.
Appearance – a cloudy golden color. Kind of thin head without a ton of lacing.
Nose – Bready hop nose with quite a bit of spice. Pick out nutmeg, maybe clove and allspice. Also orange peel, and citrus mixed in.
Taste – somewhat malty with a definite hop presence. The spices come through, as does the orange and citrus. I liked the combination of tastes with this beer. Kind of unusual. It kept morphing in my mouth to something different.
Mouthfeel – medium bodied, fair amount of carbonation, somewhat drying.
Drinkability – Very drinkable, not too alcohol present. A treat
Would give this beer an “A-“
