Roebling Imperial Robust Porter
Rivertown Brewing Co., Cincinnati, OH
Porter brewed with vanilla beans, cold pressed espresso, & raw cane sugars.
7.8% ABV, 35 IBU
Named for John A. Roebling, the designer of the Roebling suspension bridge which connects Cincinnati to Covington, Kenthucky, as well as its big brother the Brooklyn Bridge. The label describes the beer as "Like a big, chewy, vanilla, coffee infused brownie."
The beer pours black with deep auburn highlights and a short-lived beige head which has reduced to a thin layer and collar before I get my first taste. Sweetish aroma with plenty of vanilla and notes of cocoa and dark roast coffee. The flavor profile presents distinct vanilla up front with a somewhat sweet edge, followed by some cocoa and then lighter espresso notes, all with mellow roasty malt in the background. Carbonation is on the low side, giving the beer a very smooth texture with a medium body. The finish focuses more on the cocoa and hints of coffee, with a gentle bitterness that balances the earlier sweetish start.
Makes for a great dessert beer. I also think this would make an excellent float with some vanilla bean ice cream.
