Westmalle Trappist Abbey, Belgium
Trappist ale, 9.5% ABV
I served this appropriately enough in a stemmed Westmalle glass. The beer is a bright, hazy golden-yellow hue capped with a very thick, dense and slightly rocky white head. The aroma is tart and fruity, with a grainy note and hint of yeast. Very appetizing! A very fine, champagne-like carbonation tickles the tongue. The body is medium, with the thick foam lending a wonderful creaminess to the texture. Tangy, zippy flavors explode on the palate - fruity, funky yeast notes, spices, an earthy note, lemon with a hint of tangerine and lemon peel, and a pithy bitterness. There's some ligth bready malt in the background during the lengthy finish. Leaves behind heavy foam patches on the glass, and a satisfied smile on my face. Distinctive version, full of flavor and rather refreshing. High drinkability for a 9.5% ABV beer. I'd like another, please!
