9.0% ABV Russian imperial stout from Great Lakes Brewing, Cleveland, OH; named for the power blackout of 2003.
Pours an impenetrable black with a good thumb-width of creamy-beige foam that subsides to a thin layer. Aromas of chocolate malted milk and roast coffee. Fairly full-bodied with a rich, creamy texture. Big flavours of roast malt, coffee, malted milk balls, and a hint of licorice in the distant background. Light fruity esters. Nice level of bittering, but very smooth and seamlessly integrated. Lingering finish with a combination of roast and cocoa. Nice lacing on the glass. Towards the bottom, the colour becomes more of an amber-brown. Good stuff!
