8.5% ABV, 22 oz bomber, Moylan’s Brewery, Novato, CA
Moylan’s is sadly no longer distributing to Ohio; I found this bottle at Centerville Carryout.
Hazy orange brew topped by a pinky’s worth of dense, pale beige foam. Plenty of citric hops in the aroma, with notes of candied tangerine and resin. Smells substantial! Initial hoppy flavour becomes bitter quickly, with some grapefruit rind and tangerine zest and piney resin. Fairly full-bodied with some rich, caramelized malt reminiscent of a barleywine without the sweetness. Gains more hop flavour and balance as it warms some – too cold, and the bitterness is pretty strong. Around cellar temperature, and I get more orange oil (a bit of Ale to the Chief) and a more pleasant bitterness. Leaves some nice foam lacing behind.
