Gemini Imperial Blended Unfiltered Ale

  • Southern Tier, Lakewood, NY; 10.5% ABV, 50% unfiltered Hoppe, 50% Unearthly imperial IPA

Love the label – bright, hoppy green with a Gemini astronaut spacewalking. Very cool!

The beer itself pours a hazy, deep honey-gold hue with a touch of pale orange-amber in appearance, with a thick, off-white head of tightly-knit foam. Aroma of citrusy hops with orange and a little grapefruit. Moderately full body with a light effervescence and creamy texture. Light sweetness with orange oil becomes gently bitter and rounded with lots of tangy citrus zest and floral hoppiness. Malt base of biscuit and mild caramel notes rides underneath the hops. Bit of an alcohol note in the finish with a mild burn, and more orange oil with some lemon.

Awesome rings of foam cling to the glass. This was a lovely, well-blended ale. Very refreshing for a beer of such strength.

Mark Yum - that sounds so good! I'm going to have to make a beer run into CA next week and see if the store has this. I know Total Wine does not have it but maybe I can luck out a BevMo.

ibbjamin Yes, that does sound delicious. I don't believe Southern Tier distributes to California unfortunately. They are mainly east coast and midwest but also distribute to Washington and even Alaska. Maybe they think California and Oregon already have enough ...  more
