Vertical Epic 9.9.9

  • Stone Brewing Co., Belgian Porter brewed with spices, 8.6% ABV; on draught at Chappy's Tap Room & Grille, Moraine, OH

What a fitting addition to the Vertical Epic series! Pours a deep, deep brownish-black, opaque, with a thin beige head. Aromas of smoke, cocoa, toasted grain & roasted coffee with a citrus note. Initial taste includes a hint of tangerine peel, smoke, and lightly roasted grain. Oak and vanilla mingle on the palate as well. Body is moderately full, texture is smooth and rich with very fine, prickly carbonation. Some rich chocolate character shows up, like liquid Belgian truffles. Bitterness arrives gently and then lingers pleasantly. Well balanced. I get a nutty note next, maybe toasted hazelnut. The lengthy finish is roasty and dryish.

Every sip is a new adventure in flavour - this beer has a lot to convey and express! Some light foam rings remain on the glass. Frickin' awesome! Should age nicely, so drink one now and save one until the conclusion of the epic series on 12/12/12, if you can!
