Founders Brewing Co., Grand Rapids, MI; triple IPA, 12% ABV, 112 IBUs
Pours out with a noticeable viscosity, a bright, orange-amber, translucent, with almost no foam. The nose is as expected – American hops, with plenty of citrus, floral, and piney notes. Full body with a rich texture and light, very fine carbonation. Big flavours – floral, citric & piney hops, fruity and rounded malt with sweet caramel and toffee and a gentle bitterness, finishing with resiny hops. Then the alcohol burn hits, warming the palate and lips. Further sipping and contemplation bring out more complexity. There’s a lot going on here, and I really like it! Really well balanced for such a big beer. Long-lasting finish focuses on hop resins and bitterness, with a lingering sweet tang at the sides of the tongue. Marvelous!
