Southern Tier Pumking

  • 9% ABV, on draught at Chappy’s Tap Room & Grille, Moraine, OH

Served in a 10 ounce snifter out on the patio on a gorgeous, sunny autumn afternoon in the 60s, the beer is a clear, bright, pumpkin-esque copper-amber-orange with a short-lived pale beige head. The colour is fabulous – very harvesty & seasonal. Aroma of spices – nutmeg, ginger, hints of cinnamon, clove, earthy pumpkin. Moderately-full bodied with a lovely, rich texture and some viscosity. Very fine, light carbonation. Taste is spices over pumpkin – nutmeg & ginger with a hint of molasses, reminiscent of gingerbread or gingersnaps with a hint of pumpkin bread. Has a liquid baked goods effect. Cinnamon is nicely restrained. Gentle, drying bitterness with no other hop character. Warm, rounded finish with a buttery edge. Some foamy rings & patches left clinging to the glass.

Fantastic pumpkin ale! Now if I had only picked up a few bottles before they disappeared from all of southwest Ohio! (D'oh!)
