The Great Pumpkin

8% ABV imperial pumpkin ale, Heavy Seas Mutiny Fleet, Clipper City Brewing, Baltimore, MD

First of all, I really enjoy the labels on these Mutiny Fleet beers, with the variations on the pirate Jolly Rodger! On to the beer itself - bright but hazy harvest orange-amber with no head. Aroma of spices – cinnamon, ginger & nutmeg. Moderately-full bodied with a smooth texture and light carbonation. Spices up front, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pumpkin underneath, hint of clove. Not as full or rounded as Pumking, but a nice seasonal brew. Much more emphasis on cinnamon, which reminds of cinnamon candies. No hop character, very light bitterness which provides more of a dry edge than anything. Some alcohol heat in the middle-to-finish.

Mark Looks interesting. A lot of the pumkin beers are more malt than hop. I wish their was a really hoppy pumpkin brew around here for sale. I think it would be good. Pumpkin DIPA anyone? Caramely pumpkin with a huge hop bite.
