Scottish Ale Tasting September 1st - 15th

  From September 1st through September 15th we will be tasting Scottish Ales. Whether it be Oskar Blues Old Chub, Bellhaven Scottish Ale, Three Floyds Robert The Bruce Scottish Ale, Brooklyn Winter Ale, Odell 90 Shilling Ale, Full Sail Keelhauler, McEwans No. 1 Champion or whatever else you'd like to taste please post your tasting notes below. Drink, enjoy, share.

  Belhaven Scottish Ale Draught Scotland's oldest brewery. This full bodied draught, Carmel brown in color, aromas of malt, nutmeg, barley. 5.2% abv tastes include wheat, malt, walnut,with a bitter strong finish.a bit pricey as imports are 10.49 4pk can be, well worth it for Scottish beer drinkers.I am enjoying mine tonight with some Singleton 12 yr. and for you irish/scottish beer and liqour lovers join Drunken Leppracaun club

  Kilt Lifter Scotch-Style Ale, Moylan's Brewing Company, Novato, California, 8.00% ABV
  
  The Kilt Lifter Scotch-Style Ale from Moylan's Brewing Company in Novato, California pours out chestnut brown in color with good clarity and a creamy, one finger, light tan head that hangs around for a bit. Aromas of burnt caramel, touch of spice, roast malt, a little grassy hops and nuttiness. In the mouth this comes first with sweet malts (toffee, caramel flavors) intertwined with nutty hints and milk chocolate. Just a little spice and some tartness toward the end. Medium to full bodied. Nice lacing. Moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel. The flavors linger on and on in the finish. An excellent ale that is big (8% ABV) but hides its alcohol through multiple layers of complexity

  Belhaven Scottish Ale, Belhaven Brewery, Dunbar Scotland, 5.20% ABV
  
  The Scottish Ale from Belhaven Brewery Company in Dunbar Scotland pours out a deep copper in color with some sediment and a super creamy, off-white 2+ finger head that sticks around. On the nose aromas of fresh bread, warm spice, nut and a little floral. In the mouth this is very smooth almost creamy with hints of smokiness. Big malt flavors, underlying dark fruit and a little hop bitterness. Full side of medium bodied. Decent carbonation. Fantastic lacing. Lovely creamy mouthfeel. The spice and hops come through more towards the end on a long finish but this is definitely a malt forward beer (as it should be). A classic Scottish Ale that is a delight to drink

  Old Chub Scottish Style Ale, Oskar Blues Brewery, Lyons, Colorado, 8.00% ABV
  
  The Old Chub Scottish Style Ale from Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons, CO pours out mahogany brown in color with nice clarity and a one finger tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. Aromas of dried prune, dried date, brown sugar, molasses, spice and floral on the nose. In the mouth you first get a sweet maltiness with some chocolate, caramel and coffee that is followed by a slight bitterness infused with warm spices. Full side of medium bodied. Moderate lacing. Fairly well carbonated. Slight cream to the mouthfeel. The extended finish is quite sweet with just a hint of hops. An excellent beer well worth drinking.

  Sac-Squatch Scotch Ale, Sacramento brewing Company, Citrus Heights, California, 7.00% ABV
  
  The Sac-Squatch Scotch Ale from Sacramento Brewing Company in Citrus Heights, California pours out coffee brown with some reddish hues, good clarity and a thin tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. Sweet and malty on the nose with some nuttiness and just a hint of spice. In the mouth this is smooth and not quite as sweet as the nose. Very malt driven with caramel and chocolate sweetness along with some dark, dried fruit aspects. Faintly spiced and a very subtle, underlying smokiness. Medium bodied. Good Carbonation. Some lacing. Light syrup in the mouthfeel. Balanced finish that lingers. A decent Scotch Ale but a little on the sweet side for me.

  Belhaven Twisted Thistle IPA 6.1% abv. a scotland's twist of an IPA delicious completely refreshing cascade of fresh wet hops not to bitter a real sweet after taste that stays with you untill the next drink can only find this in a 1pt 9 oz bottle priced fair at $3.99 a nice taste bud tinglier to enjoy.
