Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA
Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, San Francisco, CA
ABV 6.50%
22 ounce bomber $3.99
The Big Daddy IPA from Speakeasy Ale & Lagers in San Francisco, California pours out a deep gold in color with some orangish, coppery hues. Just a little cloud and a large white, rocky head that hangs around briefly.
On the nose aromas of grapefruit, caramel, some floral notes and hints of caramel sweetness. In the mouth good, bitter citrus hop flavors, mostly grapefruit rind. There is also a good dose of caramel sweetness and some malty biscuit to offset the hops giving this brew some balance.
Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Slight cream to the mouthfeel with a touch of oil. Sheets of lacing on the glass. The finish lingers a short while and is mostly bitter, citrus hops. Definitely a West Coast style IPA (3 hop additions, including dry hopped) that has ample hoppiness too it. I'll buy this often.

Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA
6% IPA out of Boston, MA
Picked up a 6pack of 12oz bottles from BevMo in San Jose, CA. Probably paid in the neighborhood of $8.50 for the pack. I pour one into a standard pint glass to review.
Half inch off white head that is rather sparse and consistent of larger sized bubbles. Transparent and copper in color with a good amount of carbonation bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. A nice layer of retention sticks around.
Faint nose consists of grassy hops and caramel malts with a raw graininess to it. Certainly on the more mild and balanced side for the style. Hops are too muted for my liking, perhaps this would be better marketed as a pale ale.
Taste is very clean, pale and balanced. Lots of caramel malt nodding towards biscuity all balanced with grassy hops nodding towards citrusy.
Medium body with pleasant and lively carbonation and a finish that is slightly crisp.
All in all a very drinkable and enjoyable yet not entirely memorable beer. I think I'd pass for the price on this one next time, but am not disappointed I tried it.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, CA
7.2% ABV 65 IBU
12 ounce bottle $8.99/6-pack
The Torpedo Extra IPA from Sierra Nevada is the IPA I drink the most of lately. Part of that is the convenience of the corner store selling it but if it did not taste really good I would not buy it.
Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA pours out a clear copper in color topped by a two finger, off-white head that is mostly small bubbled allowing it to retain well. On the nose there is a good deal of citrus, grapefruit with some rind, pine and a nice caramel sweetness. A tad resinous too. The grapefruit and pine carry through to the mouth but are backed by caramel undertones that balance the beer without taking away the hoppiness.
Medium bodied. Nicely carbonated. Spotty lacing on the glass. Good oil in the mouthfeel. The finish is the best part of this beer as the hop intensity magnifies as you taste the beer to finally leave a lovely bitterness in your mouth. An IPA well worth buying, and as you can see, one I buy often.

Beer/Brewery - Stone IPA (India Pale Ale)\Stone Brewing Co.
B+ / 3.95
look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 3.5
City/State- Escondido, California
STYLE – American IPA
ABV – 6.9%
IBU – 77
DATE – 11 JUN 2011
SERVING TYPE – 12 oz Bottle
GLASSWARE – Tall Footed Pilsner
APPEARANCE – Clear Golden Honey yellow - Poured with a great head that dissipated down to ½ where it stayed - Nice lacing
AROMA- Hoppy… Just hops
TASTE – A crisp hoppiness right off the bat with a bitterness in the back of the throat
MOUTHFEEL – Real good carbonation but not over the top, very light
CONCLUSION – I do not drink a lot of IPAs, so my conclusion is not the best to build off of. For an IPA to me this was good. The aroma scared me but the flavor was not too powerful with the hops. I could see myself drinking this again, not every day, but I would not say no to it like I would of in the past

Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA
Dogfish Head Craft Brewed Ales
ABV 6.0% IBU 60
I picked up a 6 pack of Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA for $9.99 here in Phoenix, AZ. When I pour the 60 minute IPA into my snifter I immediately smell the wonderful aroma of the hops. The appearance is golden brown in color with a 1" head. It's a beautiful thing.
When I smell it the IPA has a sundried tomato aroma, coriander, and pete moss. The initial flavor is very balanced for an IPA. I can see why this is Dogfish Head's flagship beer. It is incredibly easy to drink. The flavors include: citrus, lemongrass, and nutmeg. The feel on the palate is dry and crisp. The balance of the 60 minute makes it a great session beer because you can drink a lot of it and you don't get a really over hopped mouth feel.
This is one of my favorite beers. I drink it at least once per month. The balanced characteristics and the incredible flavors make it a phenomenal IPA.
Rating: 9.5/10
Cheers!
