Daughter's orientation at Ball State University has me way behind! But I did manage to taste an IPA for the club this weekend.
I chose Buffalo Bills Alimony Ale due to the fact that they advertise quite a bit in my Beer Magazine and I just had to try it. So congrats to them…their advertising paid off! haha
Buffalo Bills Alimony Ale
Buffalo Bills Brewery, brewed at Pyramid Breweries, Hayward, CA
ABV- 6.80%
IBU’s- 70
12 ounce bottle
First, a bit of history which I found pretty interesting/funny about this beer online as I was looking up the brewery just to find out more about the company and its beer…
Twenty-three years ago Buffalo Bill’s Brewery, then owner Bill Owens created Alimony Ale to celebrate a patron’s divorce. Today, owner Geoff Harries has re-released this vintage brand to commemorate the history of one of America’s first brewpubs, started in 1983 and located in downtown Hayward.
By 1987 Alimony Ale had quickly become one of the most exocentric brews in America with a reputation as the “Bitterest Beer In America”. Today it’s no longer one of the bitterest, but certainly one of the best. Alimony Ale is an IPA with 6.8% alcohol and strong hop flavor with 70 IBU’s. The packaging continues to read, “Steve, newly single (and paying alimony), is looking for a full-bodied woman who can enjoy an honest, full-bodied brew, and knows the meaning of parsimony, 510-886‐9823 operators standing by.”
Now on to my tasting-
Pours a dark orange color with an off white head. Has a citrusy hoppy nose, with some pine aroma as well. Medium body with some light carbonation. Starts with a good fullness and ends with a pleasant hop bitterness and flavor. A true to style and drinkable IPA.
Sorry folks, like the last few months…I keep it short and sweet. Until next month, cheers!
