I'm the first one to rate this time? Sweet!!!
Tried a few, but going to rate this one for now...
Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale
Smokehouse Series
Boulevard Brewing Company, Kansas City, MO
12oz bottle
ABV 8%
IBU 38
I figured I would start out with the commercial description:
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickety. Here at Boulevard its fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.
Now, with all that being said...that pretty much describes what I tasted. It was actually pretty close to an IPA except for the finish...which had some spicy notes in it...sort of a light cloves taste. But to be fair, it's all I really taste in Farmhouse Ales and Saisons...cloves. But this one was light on the spices which to me made it a great beer.
I have a 6oz glass so the first pour was pretty clear...nice golden look. After I poured in the rest, there was a surprise waiting in the bottom of the bottle, some major yeast which gave the second sip a bit more mouth feel and flavor. But nothing that dramatically changed the beer.
All in all, this was a great beer. Again, I’m soooo not into spicy beers, but this one was just the right touch, and even got better tasting as it warmed up. This to me makes a beer even that much better. Enjoy!
