  The Wheat Beer Tasting runs from August 12th - August 14th. Please post your reviews below. Feel free to drink whatever you have on hand or can find locally. Any of the many types of wheat beer may be tasted: Weissbier, Witbier, Weizenbock, Hefeweizen, Kristallweizen, Dunkelweizen, Berliner Weisse, American Wheat, etc. Some choices might include; Schneider Aventinus, Weyerbacher Slam Dunkel, Weihenstephaner Kristallweissbier, Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefeweizen, Samuel Adams Dunkelweizen, Unibroue Blanche De Chambly, DFH Red & White, Three Floyds Gumballhead, Southern Tier Hop Sun & The Bruery Hottenroth Berliner Weisse.

  Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer $8.99/6-pack 12 ounce bottles
  Boulevard Brewing Company, Kansas City, Missouri
  4.4% ABV | 14 IBU | Best by 9/29/11
  
  The Unfiltered Wheat Beer from Boulevard Brewing Company pours out golden straw in color with some cloudiness (unfiltered and bottle conditioned) with streams of large bubbles and is topped by a two finger, frothy, snow white head that reduces to a film rather quickly. Yeasty and malty on the nose with some sweetness, a little spice and hints of orange. In the mouth, you can taste some honeyed, citrus sweetness (more lime than orange) and it is slightly bready. Corriander like spice with hints of pepper and a touch of hoppy bitterness. Light bodied. Moderate carbonation that gently prickles the tongue. A little lacing on the glass. Clean mouthfeel. Short to moderate length finish that is very crisp.
  
  A good wheat beer that is very refreshing and clean. I can see this being great on a hot summer day.

  Boulder Sweaty Betty Blonde Wheat Beer

  The Sweaty Betty Blonde from Boulder Beer is the 5th release in the Looking Glass Series. The beer pours out a light straw in color, clear though unfiltered, with a one finger, snow white head that recedes right away. Yeasty, estery and spicy on the nose with hints of banana and bubble gum. Flavorful in the mouth with some sweetness at first, fruity, coriander then turns tart with lemon, spice and almost seltzer like flavor. Light bodied. Effervescent carbonation. Little lacing on the glass. Clean mouthfeel. Quite a long finish with the spice and banana lasting the longest.
  
  A nice wheat beer that tasted best after warming slightly. When you take it out the fridge give 10-15 minutes to warm a little.

  G. Schneider & Sohn, Kelheim, Germany
  12.0% ABV Bottle no. 2009/22918
  
  Concentrated version of the Aventinus wheat doppelbock, chilled below freezing with the resulting ice removed. Pours a deep copper-auburn hue, hazy, with a beige head that started out 1/2" thick but fell to a thin layer. Big, malty aroma with some molasses, fruity-spicy notes, and alcohol. Full-bodied, substantial on the palate, with a creamy-velvety texture. Malty with caramel & molasses notes, with hints of Boston brown bread or prune cake and spices in the background. Warming after the swallow. Alcohol becomes more noticeable in the profile as it warms a little.
  
  A rich and luxurious beer with great complexity.

  Odell Brewing Easy Street Wheat
  Odell Brewing Company, Fort Collins, Colorado
  4.6% ABV | 15 IBU | Best by 9/20/11
  
  The Easy Street Wheat from Odell Brewing Co. in Fort Collins, CO pours out a cloudy (unfiltered) straw in color with a finger and a half, finely bubbled, white head that reduces down to a quarter inch film. Muted aromas of yeast, citrus and spice on the nose. In the mouth, flavors of citruss, hints of sweetness with a little peppery spice and minimal hop bitterness . Moderate carbonation. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Just a shade over light bodied. Luxurious mouthfeel. The finish is elongated.
  
  A very balanced, refreshing wheat beer that is a treat to drink. Highly recomended.

  The pour was a cloudy medium chestnut brown with the head being rather large (3-4 fingers), a frothy light tan and fully diminishing with fair lacing.
  
  It had a sweet aroma to it that started with a toasted straw malt and a large dose of a sweet doughy yeast with notes of banana, dried fruit caramel and a strong scent of alcohol.
  
  The taste was moderately sweet with a nice caramel note at first then became a little sour with a very strong yeast flavor that had hints of some dried fruit and a heavy alcohol presence at the end. The flavor hung around for a good long time, which most definitely enhanced the drinking experience.
  
  Mouthfeel was just a smidgen below medium in body with the texture being thick and creamy and having a slightly dry finish and a mild carbonation.
  
  Overall an interesting mix of styles, but I got to say it works so well I will definitely be having it again.

  First things first...481 people in this group and we have only 4 people rating so far this month? I'm not great at rating beers, but at least I'm trying! If you joined this group, then give us a review! (Sorry Mark, it's the Navy Chief in me...had to be said.)

  I being from Indiana, and having a great fondness for Three Floyds Brewing (FFF), and considered it a no brainer that I chose a beer from them to rate. :)
  
  Now a good friend of mine tried this beer and said it was way too hoppy for a wheat beer. I have to agree with the hoppiness, but not that it is too much. (And I have only recently started to enjoy hoppy beers.) To me, it gives it that "Not Normal" attitude that FFF is known for. You can catch that attitude in their commercial description:
  
  "An American Wheat Ale, Gumballhead is named in honor of the underground comic book cat created by Rob Syers. Initially a seasonal summer beer, now brewed year round due to demand. This beer helped redefine American Wheat Beers. Brewed with Amarillo Hops and a generous portion of American red wheat, Gumballhead has a complex hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, marmalade and peach. These flavors combined with low bitterness make Gumballhead a refreshing American Wheat Beer that doesn’t suck."

  I will give my thoughts about the marmalade and peach comments...It's the only beer that I have tried that actually has those two combined flavors. I used to call it just a citrus note, but if you really sit back and taste this beer, you really do taste those two notes and yes, even a bit of citrus as well. The hops give a great balance to all the sweetness but they do not linger.
  
  It pours out a slightly hazy yellow with a nice white head. Medium body with medium carbonations as well. Definitely a must try if you haven’t had it. One of my favorite go-to beers for the summer.
