Boulder Beer Sundance amber ale has a bitter taste at first quickly followed by a sweet after taste, a perfect balance. I have tried three different ambers in three days and this one has been the best!

Sierra Blanca brewing New Mexico brings us Roswell Alien amber ale there might not be any aliens in Roswell but some out of this world brewers. this amber has a golden caramel color a thin head that doesn't dissipate a sweet taste of malt and caramel. A very easily drinkable ale, so experience a beer that will make you a believer that somethings out there!

Old Scratch Amber Ale, 5.50% ABV
Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, Maryland

The Old Scratch Amber Ale from Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Maryland pours out a deep amber in color with just a little cloud and a fairly thin off-white head that readily dissipates. On the nose aromas of toffee, malt and grain. Flavors of subdued caramel, citrusy and leafy hops that come then go and balanced bready malt. Medium bodied. Fairly low carbonation. Minimal lacing. Clean mouthfeel. Quite spicy on the finish and dry. A nice amber ale with good flavor well worth drinking.

Olde Richmond # 6
American Style Red Ale 5.5% ABV
chestnut in color and medium in body

A buddy of mine lives in Newport News and tells me this is his newest favorite. Since i can't get it here in St.louis he brought it on his latest visit. Kind of new to the rating a beer thing, but am catching on fast, all i can say is went well with my medim rare steak.

I have yet to try any of the Ska beers, but I have been wanting to for some time now, especially their Ten Pin Porter. Love their artwork. Wish I could get them here.

Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale
American Amber / Red Ale out of Healdsburg, CA
6.8% ABV

Picked up a six pack of this when I was in Ashland, OR. I believe it was around $7-8. I pour one of them into a pint glass to review.

Leaves a large two inch light tan head. Medium sized bubbles mainly, but the top has a smooth frothy layer. Opaque dark reddish brown in color. Good retention and lacing.

Sweet malts of caramel dominate the nose. Has a bit of a grainy barley smell. Indistinguishable hops to balance.

Well balanced clean taste similar in characteristic to the nose.

The mouth is quite nice. Well carbonated, medium bodied, clean medium finish. Not watery, not thick and creamy, yet riding right in the middle. Points for drinkability.

This one ranks number two in its class I believe. I would agree with that, but this just is not my favorite style of beer I guess.

Alley Cat Amber Ale, 5.50% ABV
Lost Coast Brewery, Eureka, California

The Alley Cat Amber Ale from Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka, California pours out a deep amber in color with just a little haze and a one finger, off-white head. On the nose aromas roasted malt, caramel and hints of citrusy hops. In the mouth you first taste the rich malts with hints of caramel and spice followed by a slight hop bite. Medium bodied. Nice carbonation. Decent lacing. Crisp mouthfeel. Dry on the finish with good flavor. A very nice amber ale.

Classic Amber, 4.90% ABV
Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

The Classic Amber from Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin pours out deep gold in color with good clarity and a one finger, white head that hangs around briefly. On the nose aromas of biscuit, caramel, spice and faint hops. In the mouth flavors of cookie, biscuit and hops with just a small hop bite. Light bodied. Little lacing. Well carbonated. Clean, crisp mouthfeel. Moderate length finish with good spice and a sort of burnt cookie flavor having longevity. Not really my kind of beer but drinkable.
