Bitburger Premium Pils, 4.80% ABV
Bitburger Brauerei, Bitburg, Germany

The Premium Pils from Bitburger Brauerei in Bitburg, Germany pours out a pale, golden yellow with very nice calrity and a thin white head that fades away quite quickly. On the nose there is a little citrus with some malt. Fairly simple nose. Great flavor in the mouth with a slight bitterness at first followed by grains and some sweetness. Nice carbonation. Little lacing. Fairly light bodied. Crisp, clean mouthfeel. Pretty dry finish on this excellent Pils. A good beer for the cup holder on the riding mower this summer.

Allgauer Brauhaus - Kempten Germany
Teutsch Pils - Pilsener
4.8% ABV

Poured out a cloudy straw color with decent head retention.

Smelled very floral, and of grassy hops.

Tasted very bready like malt upfront, with a grassy hop finish. Very clean. Dry.

Very light and refreshing. Went well with our 4th of July kabobs. Some might think it's a tad watery. But not bad for the style.

Lowenbrau original Munich Germany not one of the best nor the worst this pilsner was a all time favorite when i was 15 skunk beer was in with teenagers by the time i was 21 no surprise the beer was unavailable were i live recently was i able to find this beer again and isn't as great as when i was younger i guess any beer you could get your hands on under 21 was like gold

Spaten Premium Lager, 5.20% ABV
Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau, Munich, Germany

The Spaten Premium Lager from Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau in Munich, Germany pours out a light gold in color with good clarity and just under a one finger, white head that dissipates almost immediately. Aromas of malt, yeast and floral hops on the nose. in the mouth flavors of biscuity malt, with a slight hop bite and some lemon. Slightly on the sweet side for a lager. Just a little heavier than light bodied. Good carbonation. Some lacing. Crisp, clean mouthfeel. Slightly dry on the finish with a nice, mild hoppiness. Good flavor, easy drinker. For a mass produced beer there is a lot of quality in the bottle.

Kalnapilis 7.30 - Euro Stong Lager
Alaus Darylda Kalnapilis - Lithuania
7.3 % ABV

I ventured outside Germany a bit to try this Lithuanian beer. Mostly out of curiosity, having never tried a beer from this region. I read some other reviews of this beer which were not very complementary, but truly I thought it was quite drinkable. Might have been the spicy Chinese food I had it with that made it palatable, I don't know.

Appearance: Golden yellow typical lager. No real head or lacing to speak of.

Smell: Malt, corn, and sweet citrus dominate the nose.

Taste: Definitely malt liquor characteristic. Is there such a thing as a Euro malt liquor, as opposed to an American malt liquor? I think this one had a better flavor than an American malt liquor. Brown sugar sweetness up front, a cornbread kind of taste. A lttle hop on the backside, not bitter in any way. Drying on the finish.

Drinkability: Did not really notice the higher alcohol content. It is masked well. For $2.25 for over one pint of imported beer, I'm not complaining.

Pilsner Urquell, 4.40% ABV
Plzensky Prazdroj, Plzen, Czech Republic

The Pilsner Urquell from Plzensky Prazdroj in Plzen, Czech Republic pours out a vibrant gold in color with lovely clarity and a two finger, white head that dissipates pretty quickly. On the nose aroma of spicy hops, grass, grain and just a hint of citrus. In the mouth there is good spice and some bitterness along with biscuity malt, tea and a little citrus. Light bodied. Decent carbonation. Some lacing. Crisp yet smooth mouthfeel. Dry and slightly bitter on the finish with sweetness coming in at the very end. A very good Pilsner that I buy quite often.

Mahr’s Pilsner
Bamberger, Germany
ABV 5%
16.9oz bottle.

A: Pale gold in color with a bit of haze, you can see bits of yeast here and there and good, strong carbonation. Light head small bits of lace. A very nice looking beer from an appearance stand point.

N: Sweet, almost over the top on vanilla infused & melon (for a Pils that is), and some say bubble gum which I just could not find, and I really tried but alas not even a hint could I find. Those typical distinctive German pilsner hops are just hanging out underneath all of this, peeking out from under the other aromas to intrigue you to dig in. Slight touch of malt in there, just to say hello.

T: Off the bat a sweeter Pils, which sets me back since I am used to the more hoppy/bitter style or flavors. The sweet shades of malt that coat the hops are exceptional, and they bring out both the subversive nature of the hops to an at first noticeable bitter-sweetness that starts off slowly and then comes forward, followed by some toasted grain and some mixed fruit, could not tell what fruits nor do a care, it’s just there. Finish is subtle with a bit of the bitterness left over and fading out.

M: Light carbonation, and it holds up its end of the deal. Finishes out very nicely and leaves you saying not a bad Pils and I would buy this one again

Marke Weltenberger Pils
Brauerei Bischofshof - Regensburg, Germany
4.9% ABV

Sorry, no picture. Has a nice label though of one of those idyllic German villages. The beer pours out straw yellow with a decent head. Smelled of grassy hops and citrus, kind of lemony. Did not really get any malt smell to this beer. The taste was not as complex to me as some of the German pilsners. Hoppy more than malty. Still some sourness of lemons. I didn't find much spice in it. A slightly bitter hop finish. Definitely a refreshing summer brew. Would go well with anything you might BBQ.
