Gruit Ingredients

  I am going to use a plant called Mugwort in addition to hops for my next beer. Does anyone have any experience with this or other non-hop additions?

  That is a good question. I haven't used Mugwort I hope this group will grow and some one will be able to answer it. I will do some research and see what I can find. hopefully this group will grow.

  I've never even tried a gruit, but I'm very interested. Can anyone suggest a commercial variety I can sample?

  Fraoch which is a Scottish ale that uses Heather Flower tips. It Rocks (if you get a good batch). It's kind of hard to come by. The only way I can get it is when I visit my parent s back home.
  
  Last summer I was toying with the idea of using Dandilion. First it would get the kids out of my hair for a few hours, which in itself would be a case for joy. But I held off until I finally set up my all-grain kit which has yet to happen..

  Dandelion sounds interesting! I just racked my first attempt at a gruit into the secondary carboy. Based on a recipe I found on the web, I used mugwort (wormwood), lemon grass, sarsparilla,orange peel, roasted chicory, chamomile, and licorice root. When I racked it, I noticed it smelled a bit like the smoke that one smells at a classic rock concert!
