Not that I know that much about this because I have yet to brew my first batch of beer, But....My wife and I bought a home brew kit about 4 years ago for like $40.00 for a local shop. While I was down at my buddies for the Norfolk Va Beer Fest last week end we brewed up a batch of Fat Tire so I could see how he does it. It looks like I still need to get a kettle, stirring spoon, filter funnel, and 2 lids for the brewing buckets (don't quite know why the kit didn't come with them?). So I'm guessing that I'll probably spend another $40 - $50 yet to get started. So for the equipment part I think you can do it for $100 or under.

Does anyone have any information [links?] on how a person could get started home brewing simply? By simply I mean "least equipment purchased". Its not that I don't have the money, I'm aware that it will not be a cheap hobby [if I want to make it a hobby] and am prepared to spend what is needed if I like it. The thing is, I know people have been home brewing for years and withtout $100.00 homebrewing kits. What is the bare minimum for homebrewing?

Like anything else if ya go too cheap then you won't be happy with the results. Find out whats included in whatever beer starter kit that you like and then go on a scavager hunt. It took me about 3 years to finally get all the parts I needed for my brewery ( I do all grain with a RIMS system). It can be done.
