Double Mocha Porter
Rogue Ales, Newport, OR
ABV: 8.20% IBU: 78
750ml bottle $11.49
The Rougue Double Mocha Porter pours out a dark, dark brown in color, almost black but some light gets through, with a frothy, two finger, tan colored head. The head lingers for a little while before subsiding.
The nose is redolent with roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and toast aromas inviting you to take a sip. In the mouth you first taste the deeply roasted, espresso like, coffee flavor followed by layers of bittersweet chocolate and vanilla that give way to an earthy hoppiness that has a little smoke to it. Moderately carbonated. Just past medium bodied. Excellent lacing on the glass. At first, the mouthfeel is clean but as the brew coats your palate it takes on a slight creaminess. Good bitter coffee flavor on the extended finish.
What a wonderful mocha porter. If coffee and beer are on your list of good beer qualities you will enjoy this immensly. I sure did.
This is an great Brew! Split a big bottle a few weeks back with a buddy. Looking forward to another.
