Mark → Virtual Craft Beer Tasting Club: Who's in for Porter next month? The tasting will be Feb. 6-12. Also, just an idea, but maybe we should have a special tasting Feb 29th for the leap year. Maybe a rare beer tasting or favorite beer tasting? Other ideas welcomed.

  • Ten new Colorado breweries are rolling out this summer
The gang's all beer in Colorado these days, with at least ten -- count 'em, ten -- brewpubs slated to start pouring before the end of summer. Two opened north of town this past weekend: Big Choice in Broomfield and City Star in Berthoud, both following closely on the heels of Frederick's Echo Brewing. There are currently 141 licensed craft breweries in Colorado, pumping $446 million a year into the state economy, and another seventy-plus in the planning stages.

  • Carmel Valley ‘Beer Geek’ publishes ...
Carmel Valley’s Merideth Canham-Nelson and Chris Nelson had mastered the complicated equation of finances, travel tables, buzz management and day jobs – as a clinical social worker and beer-tender/web designer, respectively – to spend a significant volume of their year traveling the world’s best breweries, from Oregon to the Outback. The self-labeled Beer Geeks would then relay discoveries to a loyal audience by way of amateur videos and blog commentary at thebeergeek.com.
  • BrewDog Backs Minimum Pricing
BrewDog were the first company to publically back the Scottish Governments proposals for a minimum price per unit alcohol policy. As the proposal looks set to become reality we feel the step will only help get more people drinking great quality craft beer. In addition it will be a further nail in the coffin of the industrial brewers who are becoming more and more out of touch with beer drinkers in the UK.
  • Governor signs beer bottle bill into law
Gov. Robert Bentley has signed into a law a bill that will increase the maximum size for beer bottles sold in Alabama. The Gourmet Bottle Bill, which was passed last week by the Alabama House, will lift the maximum bottle size to 25.4 ounces from the current limit of 16 ounces. That would allow sales of the 22-ounce, 750-milliliter bottles used by many craft breweries.
