just had one of my rye pale ales, didn't turn out too badly. I won't be able to brew for a living, but at least it will keep me busy. Has anyone here tried growing hops and had any success?-

I've got a flat roofed house, so up the side and over the top is what i'm planning, also a semi-dead tree on the cooler side of the yard to try one (branches at about 10 and 15 feet). I just love the smell.

Keep us posted on the progress. Maybe I'll check with my local beer shop about growing hops in MN. -
If you get a chance Rich, head out to Brau Brothers Brewery in Lucan, MN. They have a 2 acre hop farm. Just call them before you go because in the next month or so they are moving to Marshall, MN (although I doubt the hop field is moving). -
That's about a three hour drive for me. At some point I'll make the drive.

The University of Minnesota is working with hops at their Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca. Closer, but still a drive.

Paul did my first shot at home brewing, a Russian Imperial, not too bad, needs less carbonation, but its drinkable

Maybe retirement will be in the form of a nano-brewery with a bakery next door. :)

Paul What a wonderful Christmas in London, these and 32 others. Also got to bring thirteen back. That doesn't include pub drinking which included a dozen more. However, drinking in the UK isn't cheap.

Paul doesn't matter which state, just coastal is preferable, inexpensive would mean sub-$2/can in bulk. Someone that I know is looking to ship overseas

A good choice might be Cigar City. They will be canning 8 beers soon. Average retail $10/6-pack. Distributor pricing should be a good bit less.

Paul Back from 'sconsin this evening, got to visit six new (to me) brewpubs/micros and one regional brewery. Many beers were consumed, many joined me for the trip home. Leaving for Florida in two days, I'm sure that it won't be as productive.

Paul Jason, just wanted to give you a run for your money on glassware. But I believe that I've had a year or two or three head start. There are boxes on the floor with glasses in them. and one more pic in the album that didn't show here.

How do you know which beer to drink out of it if there's no Logo???? most of the pounders were from the brewpubs themselves, the goblets and such, not so much.

Logos (to me) get in the way of looking at the beer. -
As for me I use glassware, yes to see the beer (Ok looks good, done) but more importantly to drink it and enhance flavor. Logo's just look better on a glass (to me). Just sayin...

Paul Four days of Winter remaining, just got done mowing the yard and closing up the woodpile. The first round of daffodils are dieing, the turkeys are in full strut and the squirrels are getting squirrelly. Time to have a beer.
