Rick → oregonbeerlover: Oh, you can never doubt free beer... but sometimes it is just terrible. A friend of mine drinks nothing but Red Dog for some godforsaken reason. So when I go to his house, that is the free beer available.

  • Name Rick
  • Twitter
  • About Me I am a journalist, a writer and a beer lover. I have lost count of the types and varieties of beer that I have had, but always remember a good beer. I tend to put beer into most things I cook, except eggs and pizza, which I haven't found a way to do. I listen to punk and oi mostly, but have been known to listen to anything from metal to country.

  • Mark Congrats South Carolina! The State House just approved the so called "Pint Bill" that will allow breweries to sell 48 ounces of beer to a person every 24 hours. No more tiny samples if you're wanting a pint - as long as the Governor signs the bill.

  • Apple of My Eye

    Posted December 20, 2008

When I popped the cap off the bottle, the scent of apples hit me hard. And it made me hesitant. I have had too many beers where fruit flavoring is added after it was brewed, but this one claims it was brewed with apple juice, not beer with added apple juice. The beer is question was Ephemere by Uni...

  • Fire at the Brew Works

    Posted December 7, 2008

I got the call last night, right before dinner with my girlfriend and her parents -- the Bethlehem Brew Works was on fire. Throughout the evening, it preyed on me. Brew Works, my favoritie brew pub, had a two-alarm fire working. To make matters worse, I was planning on going there on my birthday ...

  • Two Holiday Ales

    Posted November 28, 2008

So I just got two holiday ales today while shopping for food for the week. I let them chill this morning and tucked into them this afternoon. One I really liked, the other was decent, but lacking in the holiday part. First:   Rogue Ales Santa's Private Reserve Copper color, the near...

  • Weyerbacher Winter Ale

    Posted November 25, 2008

I have to say this lacks as a winter ale, as most of those are very hearty and spiced. But this ale is just damn drinkable and smooth. So I am going to have to recommend it to ale fans. I definitely would add it to my ale re-buy list, and I usually do not buy the same beer twice as I just want to ta...

  • A Tale of Two Ales

    Posted November 17, 2008

Many years ago, when I first began drinking beer, I really had no clue as to what was worth drinking. Hell, I was in college, so price dictated more than taste. On top of that, I had been straight-edge all through high school and the first part of college and hadn't tasted beer since my grandfa...

This group is designed to share notes about beer, as well as tasting notes and suggestions and get to know beer lovers from all over the globe. Here's the idea: We have themed tasting. In advance, if possible, we will pick a Style of Beer we're going to taste, then we trade tasting notes. The tasting period will be over two weeks so we get an outpouring of related tasting notes, which will spur deep discussions.... Check the Discussion area for what the tasting will be.
